Review - Martyn Wyndham-Read & Iris Bishop
26/10/18

It was a huge pleasure to have Martyn Wyndham-Read & Iris Bishop back at the Everyman Folk Club last night. Martyn’s mellifluous voice and sensitive guitar playing were enriched by the delicate and sympathetic accompaniment of Iris on McCann duet concertina and piano accordion. As well as contemporary songs, it was a treat to hear some of Martyn’s older repertoire. Their respect for the songs and the sincerity of their performance ensured this earlier material sounded as fresh and exciting as it did when Martyn was our first guest at the re-launched Everyman in 1996. An exquisite evening ended with a stunning arrangement of Liz Weston’s beautiful song, Come Walk With Me.

The evening included entertaining floor singing from Mike Acott, Shirley Harry, Mike Meyerstein & Pete Young, Steve Danby, and Keith & Mary-Jane Tyrrell. Thank you all for your contribution to the evening. Bravo to our superb audience for their impressive and enthusiastic chorus singing.

As always, thanks to each and every one of you for being so marvellous! We’ll see you again next time, Friday 30 November 2018, when our guests are Jo Freya, Sarah Matthews and Melanie Biggs: Moirai.
