Review - James Hickman & Dan Cassidy
25/05/18

At the Everyman Folk Club last night our guests were two superb musicians, James Hickman and Dan Cassidy. This transatlantic duo (James from Shropshire UK and Dan from Maryland USA … via Iceland) gave wonderful renditions of a wide range of American and British musical traditions. James’ stirring vocals were accompanied by his driving guitar, augmented by Dan’s expert fiddle playing. Dan’s tunes were enriched with sensitive and delicate vibrato and exceptional bow control – and a highlight of the evening was Dan’s own tune, Lady Arabella’s Lament. The amiable fusion of James’s lively wit and Dan’s dry humour added to the enjoyment of all. A sensational season finale!

Many thanks to our tremendous floor performers – David Cotter (first time singing at the Everyman), Bernard Hoskin, James Scott (winner of the Percy Webb memorial tankard singing competition), Philip Lyons, Shirley Harry, and Terence Blacker.

Well, that’s the end of another season at the club and, as always, we wish to express sincere gratitude to our marvellous and friendly Members. Ken, Ade, Steve and I thank you all for your continued support, chorus singing, floor spots, and enthusiasm. We hope everyone has a lovely Summer, and that we’ll see you again on Friday 28 September when Mary Humphreys & Anahata make a welcome return to the Everyman.
