Review - Cohen Braithwaite-Kilcoyne
29/04/22

Doors open – and what a way to restart. Our guest, Cohen Braithwaite-Kilcoyne, was altogether astounding at the Everyman Folk Club last night (and definitely worth the wait of 764-days plus an 8-hour train journey!). We were treated to the dynamic performance and display of passion for the tradition we had anticipated, but the endless development of Cohen’s technical brilliance is remarkable – Scott Joplin’s Palm Leaf Rag being just one example. One of many highlights was his magnificent arrangement and beautiful rendition of Lakes of Wolfrinn; a song he discovered recently when researching his Kilcoyne ancestry. Thank you, Cohen, for a superb blend of traditional and contemporary songs and tunes.

Very well done and thank you to all our entertaining floor performers - Shirley Harry, John Wright, Charlie Haylock, Dave Tricker, and Bill Johnston & Sheila Darling. We don’t underestimate the courage that took after a 2-year hiatus.

Our wonderful audience is known for its outstanding and enthusiastic chorus singing, and last night was no exception. What a treat it was to hear you all again – how we have missed you. You are all ‘stars in the darkness’. Thanks to each and everyone of you for observing the safety precautions and looking out for one another with such good grace. Let’s do it again on Friday 27 May, when we are thrilled to have Pete Morton as our guest.
