Review - Dan Walsh
27/09/24

An energetic and sparkling performance by our remarkable guest, Dan Walsh, at the first night of the Everyman Folk Club’s new season yesterday. Beautiful and moving songs were well balanced with mesmerising tunes, exhibiting the beauty of Dan’s slow and thoughtful playing as well as his dexterous and stunning clawhammer banjo style. Dan is a first class songwriter and guitarist as well as a masterful banjo player, and we enjoyed the perfect mix of self-penned compositions with those of others. Despite seeing it with our own eyes, quite how this magnificent musician makes his banjo sound like an Irish harp, an Indian sitar in Lydian mode, a jazzy double bass, and a range of percussion instruments – at times, simultaneously - remains a mystery!

Shirley Harry was our excellent MC this evening, and she was also one of our superb floor performers, together with Val & Simon Haines, Jane Bromley & Peter Reeves, Terence Blacker, and Mary-Jane & Keith Tyrell. Thank you all for your marvellous music.

Many thanks to our terrific audience too – it was a joy to see and to hear you again after the summer break. See you next time, when Dave Webber & Anni Fentiman make their long-awaited return to the Everyman on Friday 25 October 2024.
