Review - Laura Smyth & Ted Kemp
30/03/18

It certainly turned out to be a very *Good Friday* indeed at the Everyman Folk Club on Friday night. Our guests, Laura Smyth & Ted Kemp proved to be utterly enchanting. Laura’s strong, agile and pure voice was underpinned by Ted’s fine baritone in songs from the North West and East Anglia, including melodies reminiscent of other songs – and Laura’s own song, Alizon Device, could easily be mistaken as traditional. Their restrained use of accompaniments (guitar, banjo, ‘cello, and English & Anglo concertinas) were well chosen to perfectly suit each song, and we were enthralled by their obvious love for the tradition as well as by their performance.

We were also treated to songs, tunes and monologues from our entertaining floor performers - Graham Schofield, John Wright, Dave Tricker, Keith & Mary-Jane Tyrrell, Terence Blacker, and Charlie Haylock. Thank you all.

Thanks as well to everyone in our lovely audience for venturing out on such a wet night, joining in, and welcoming our guests and new visitors to the club. See you next month, Friday 27 April 2018, when our guests are Mick Ryan, Paul Downes, James Patterson & Dave Bordewey – CROWS!
